Managerial Styles also known as leadership styles are methods a manager uses to provide direction, implement plans, and motivate people to reach their goal.
Managerial Styles used by a leader have great influences upon the workplace climate and can result in raising a team’s morale and productivity or break it down.
Daniel Goleman in his work “Six Emotional Leadership Style” identify the following six styles:
Coercive Leadership Style,
Authoritative Leadership Style,
Affiliative Leadership Style,
Democratic Leadership Style,
Pacesetting Leadership Style,
Coaching Leadership Style.
One thing to note, there is no good style for all situations. Effectiveness of each of the styles depends on context, objectives and people involved. But great leaders are able to recognize and use the appropriate style to match a given situation.
